I'm 16. I've always kind of been drug and alcohol free, but it's only been recently that I've started claiming straight edge, since until recently I was open to the idea of trying out things once I left home. But that was before starting school where I am, and now that I've pretty much seen enough of what drugs and alcohol do to people, I've made up my mind to adopt the straight edge lifestyle.( more )4 comments|post commentintro[06 Jul 2008|08:43am]kels_ayHey im new to this community and to LJ . My name's Kelsey, im 15 and ive been trying to live my life without drugs and alcohol. i started doing heavy drugs at a younger age and then moved on to alcohol. I pretty much did anything that would get me messed up. I mean I was throwing my whole life and future away for a bottle and some really ridiculous friends that i thought were the greatest. I listen to oldschool hardcore and lots of straight edge bands such as minor threat and their songs really hit me hard and made me think. but i never thought that drugs and booze weren't a necessary part of MY life. but then a series of reaally bad events happened (each one worse then the previous) and I knew this lifestyle wasnt for me. I know im young, but I have seen and experienced more than i would have liked to. being straight edge is really awesome for me. I feel better about myself and I feel like I have something to be apart of, not just be some punk.     2 comments|post commentHeh. Hi! ^^ [intro][13 Jun 2008|11:01pm]x_girlgerms[mood|hopeful]Heylo. I'm Maranda. My friends call me Mandi. Oh shit. I just turned 17. [Weird, I almost told you I just turned 16. xD] I am not cool.I have this feeling inside of me when it comes to sxe. It's just like, in my heart and in my mind, it just clicks.( Look... )8 comments|post commentSome questions...[10 Jun 2008|08:58am]junkteenHey, I thought this community was kinda quiet, so I thought I would just make a question post. Feel free to answer any or all. How long have you been straight edge?Why did you claim edge?Have you ever considered breaking it? Do you think you'll ever break?What do your friends/family think of it?What do you tell people when they ask about your straight edge?Do you believe that being straight edge doesn't count until you're 21?Would you ever consider getting a sxe tattoo?Do you have any additions to straight edge? (Are you vegan/vegetarian? do you use caffeine? etc)(I'll add my answers in a comment.)14 comments|post commentNon-alcoholic drinks[03 Jun 2008|11:28am]jemajenskiHello!I had a nightmare come true the other day when I was out at a restaurant with friends and ordered a non-alcoholic drink. I took a long sip and tasted alcohol in it. I confronted the waiter and asked her whether she had forgotten or misunderstood that I ordered a non-alcoholic drink: she denied it and claimed the drink was made without alcohol. I froze. I couldn't drink it anymore but I didn't feel like making a big deal out of it (this happened in Russia and customer service isn't exactly great there half the time) but my friend returned the drink and made the waiter taste it herself. I got another one, this time without alcohol. But yeah I was really pissed off. My friends all drink and they were being assholes, saying "What's the harm taking one sip". They understood my point eventually, but still... I got to thinking what are my rights as a customer if I'm being forced to drink alcohol? Isn't that like a serious thing? What if I was pregnant or suffering from an addiction? I felt really ass-raped & abused. Couldn't understand what had happened.The reason I wrote here was to find out if you have similar experiences. I like to have a drink at shows etc for the support (venues aren't always well-off), but now I'm seriously considering to start drinking only juice... What have you done in that situation?13 comments|post commentSome questions.[05 Jun 2008|08:48pm]xolunchbox[mood|contemplative]Hi. I'm Brittany, and I'm 15. I've been considering going sxe for a while now and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do it. (I've only ever had one drink before anyways and didn't even get drunk) I've just never seen the appeal in drugs/alcohol and I don't like the way it impairs peoples judgment and makes them act. I want to do this for myself because I don't like the idea of voluntarily damaging my body for not having control of what I'm doing.I've also been a vegetarian for four years already.I have a question though.I'm not really too into hardcore/punk music so can I still call my self straight edge?Maybe I should get into some more hardcore bands? Does anyone have any recommendations? (and I'm not just asking because of wanting to become sxe. I'm always open to new music)Also I'm kind of afraid to tell my friends. It's not that they will care per say but they always joke about sxe and my one friend wants to make some plan for us to try and get drunk. She's gotten drunk once and thought it was fun and my other friend goes to parties sometimes and has gotten drunk a few times.33 comments|post comment[12 May 2008|12:33am]mischadork[music|Brand New] Hi my name is Michelle, and I'm 16. I've been edge since September 2006 and I plan on being edge til death.I'm getting sick of these kids in my town who don't get the term sxe or don't understand it's true meaning and judge me for my beliefs. You're not sxe for a week because you need to be sober for your drug test. You're not sxe because you've never done shit.Edge is a choice, a commitment. You're not born sxe. Also, being edge doesn't mean I'm a nun that will never have sex, it means I'm not promiscuous.Seriously, I'm over ignorance.Sorry, I needed to vent.Add me if you want. It'd be cool to talk to some edge kids being I don't know any in my drunk, pot loving town. I see edge kids at festivals and shows and you won't believe how happy that makes me inside, to know that somewhere outside of my limits there are other kids who choose this lifestyle.(Warning I'm more into alternative music over hxc.)6 comments|post commentyour definition of being edge[27 May 2008|04:33pm]rachel_laineI've considered myself straight-edge for the past six years but have never had any friends who were edge as well. Because of this, I've been spoiled in my definition, haven't had anyone who could, so to speak, regulate my behavior, and have consistently viewed being edge as abstaining from alcohol, cigarettes, recreational drugs, and promiscuity. I'm lucky enough to live a pretty decent life without ingesting pills daily, but I do take ibuprofen, excedrin, advil, or aspirin (depending on what I grab first) if I have a really gnarly headache that doesn't seem to go away (I'm talking about at least five hours).However, recently, I've become friends with this kid who semi-jokes with me when I drink anything besides water (namely caffeine) or do something unethical (like support companies who support things he doesn't believe in). E.g., I drank a diet pepsi and bought something from Urban Outfitters and his response was, "Dude! I thought you were straight-edge!" I can understand where he's coming from with the caffeine, but I just end up feeling ashamed of my behavior because I've always prided myself on being edge (and vegan, and environmentally conscious), and here's this kid who is so much more diligent and hardcore (not in the music sense) about what he believes in.So my question is this: what, in your opinion, defines being straight-edge? Do you abide by the three biggies exclusively? If you don't, do you view people who do as being not really straight-edge? Do you abstain from certain behaviors as well as substances? Etc.Thanks for your responses.8 comments|post commentjust wondering[11 May 2008|02:56pm]gryp5hi, my name is Plamen i am 19 and i live in Spain.  I found out whats sxe like a week ago and i was wondering if i am sxe. I have never drink (alcohol) ,smoke, take drugs in my life . I dont even drink coffee. I listen to punk, metal and emo/screamo. And no i am not trying to be sxe poser, i just want to know if i am already sxe.13 comments|post commentInside Straight Edge?[13 Apr 2008|06:30pm]jay_m_sDoes anyone know if National Geographic's Inside Straight Edge is up anywhere online yet?I'd like to watch it but I don't have cable.Did anyone here watch it when it aired?thoughts?8 comments|post commenthello[09 Apr 2008|12:39pm]luke_edgehi, just a quick intro...my name is luke, I'm 29, I've been SxE for almost 12 years now. I think the bottom line, for me, is that life is just more rewarding when you're sober. I don't have a problem with people using drugs, as long as they do it in reasonable ways and they don't try to blame anyone else for their misfortunes when things go bad. I'm vegan and enjoy cooking. my partner is also vegan, but she's not edge. I think it would be hard for me to fall for someone who smokes, but I don't mind if she's got a drink every now and then. I live in london UK, which overall is a pretty fun place, just like any big city will come with a mixed bag of "pros" and "cons". I work in journalism, and spend quite a lot of time away from home.I signed up here to post a link to my website, which is a "journal-type news round-up" of all things I consider relevant to some of those life choices I make: drug free, vegan, etc. you'll also find a fine collection of vegan food pix there, in case you're reading this at work and your lunch break is still couple hours away! while great majority of posts and issues covered are of serious nature, the tone is sometimes tongue-in-cheek, so please hold your horses before you slap that "hater" tag on my forehead :) ok, that's that. have a good day. stay strong. xxx.www.avocadoanonymous.orgpost commentSOME HXC AND SXE HARDCORE FOR AUCTION/SALE[23 Mar 2008|09:49pm]sewn_shuthttp://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZjr771NEED TO CASH SO MY LOSSES ARE YOUR GAIN!All originals!post comment[21 Feb 2008|08:28pm]lindzgjdfhey everyone, i'm new to this community.My name is Lindsey and I'm 15. (i know my defualt doesnt really fit well in this community, but it will be changed soon, I first joined LJ for one of the communities in which that picture would be appropriate [thinspo.I have an ED] but i got use to LJ and decided i should use it more and join more communities. so i apoligize for that)I've been drug free since january 2, 2008. my new years resolution. I use to smoke a lot of weed because my mom smokes pot and i would just steal it from her becuase it was there. (I also did other things like drink, extacy, lsd, ccc but i smoked weed on a daily basis)i recently sold my bubler and got rid of papers and lighters. I pretty much decided to be drug free for my family. My dad told me i wasnt 'daddy's girl' anymore and he didnt know who i was or what i had gotten into (he knew i smoked, mom doesnt know) and that broke my heart. I dont think it was fair for him to say to me, but in the end i know it will make me a better person (and hopefully i can take back my position and be daddy's girl again). I'm not proud of what ive done and maybe you can accept me for who i am today and not from what i was. thanks for listening. xxx3 comments|post commentnavigation[viewing|most recent entries][go|earlier]if (SnapShots) { SnapShots.init('livejournal.com', 'livejournal.ru');}
