Our Mission
To propagate Islam in
its pristine form to the four corners of the World, according to the teachings
of the Qur'an and Hadith.
History of the Jameah
The Jameah was founded in 1992 by Mufti Ismail Rahim, the founder of
Madrassah Mu'einul Islam lil Muslimaat in Zakariyya Park, South Africa. It
started off with only two students in a small house in Bakerton, Springs before
moving to its present premises in Persida, Springs. Alhamdulillah today it
has more than 100 students studying Hifz ul Qur'an,Aalim
course and the Iftaa course.
Jameah Mahmoodiyah was founded in 1412 A.H/ 1993 by
a personality no other than the then grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Mufti Mahmood
Hasan Gangohi (R.H) of Darul Uloom Deoband; hence the name ‘Mahmoodiyah’. Since
then the institution has been serving the students, both local and foreign, and
has produced many graduates in the Aalim, Qari, Iftaa’ and Hifz ul Qur’an
courses. All praise goes to Allah.

During this age of intellectualism it has become increasingly important that the
Muslims in general and scholars in particularly acquire mastery on the sciences
of the Qur’an, Hadith and Islamic Jurisprudence; the premier sources of Islamic
learning.
The need for Islamic Studies:
Prior
to the advent of Islam the Arabs were passing through a phase of ignorance. To
their fortune it was the rich Islamic literature and spiritual strength of the
Qur'an and Hadith that wrenched them out of that darkness to real light. The
Qur'an - with its eternal message - is the lasting miracle of Rasoolullah .
The Qur’an openly challenged the world to produce anything close to it in dictum
and message, but upto date no one from among the Arabs and non-Arabs could meet
that challenge,
In
modern times when man is once again engulfed into moral and spiritual decadence,
we may assert with confidence that only Islam can salvage him. Therefore to
make that a reality there is a desperate need for true students to take up the
lead with a creative vision and excellent Islamic background in knowledge,
practice and spirit.
They
need to delve into the Qur'an and Hadith and seek solutions to heal the
distressed souls of modern man. Though the Qur’an was revealed during the dark
ages it is perfectly ideal for the moral and spiritual upliftment of people of
this age too. We are duty bound to impart its message to the restless souls.
Hence while the world is waiting for a Messiah and the Muslims are anticipating
the Mehdi, it is imperative that Muslim youth devout their precious moments to
make thorough research on Islamic literature and provide a soothing balm to the
world once again.
Virtues of
Ilm-e-Deen:
Adam
was accorded ascendancy to the angels by virtue of his knowledge.
Rasoolullah  bid
the Ummah, that after having milk they should pray, “O Allah! Bless us in
this milk and give us an ‘increase’ in it.”
Likewise Allah bids us in the Qur’an to pray, "O my
Sustainer! Give me ‘increase’ in knowledge.” i.e. in my reasoning.
The
two quotations suggest that, as much as milk is necessary for physical
nourishment knowledge is equally necessary for spiritual enrichment.
Jameah’s vision:
Jameah’s aim is to create such Rijaal for the Ummah who will strive to
educate the Ummah (Ijaabah and Da’wah) and streamline the way of Islam
for them. Throughout Islamic history true Muslim scholars applied themselves to
this course, embodied its message in them and passed it on to the succeeding
generations. Now, that Amaanah lies squarely on our shoulders till we
pass it on to the succeeding generation. Jameah envisions that this need can be
fulfilled through its graduates In Sha-Allah. It is for these goals in
mind, an opportunity is provided for the keen Muslim students to slake their
academical thirst of Islam.
The Syllabus:
With
consideration to the literal, practical and spiritual needs and promotion of the
students, a comprehensive syllabus for an Aalim and Mufti course is prepared by
the Jameah which is hereunder included. Please follow it attentively.

Languages and Medium of instruction:
Since
Arabic is the prime language of instruction at the Jameah much emphasis is laid
on it. English and Urdu too are taught thoroughly and are accorded their
deserved attention.
Arabic:
Because the original sources of Islam are in Arabic it is important that the
student acquire mastery on this language. This will help him read, write and
comprehend the Islamic literature in Arabic passed onto us by our Arab
predecessors. Incompetence in Arabic is a serious disadvantage to an Islamic
scholar. To aim for higher goals in Islamic services and embark on his mission
more confidently the student should acquire command over Arabic. Much reading
and studying has to be done of the Arabic literature before he will start
imparting the sciences to others. In view of that Jameah lays much stress for
Arabic on its students. To make an achievement on Arabic, students are guided
through speech contests, article writing and cassette listening.
English:
To
pass the message of Islam over to the English speaking communities, English has
become a must for every Islamic scholar - especially those whose target groups
is the English speaking masses - without which he will only be depriving a large
part of the world from the teachings of Islam. Islam is a universal religion,
and its universality can be rightly asserted through communication with the
masses in the languages they understand best. Our duty is to sound the message
to all and sundry, and then refer to Allah for guidance. Hence English too is
given notable attention at the Jameah.
Urdu:
There
is no denial to the fact that much of Islamic literally work is authored by
Muslim luminaries in the Indo-Pak sub-continent in the Urdu language. After
Arabic, Urdu comes first in its contribution to Islamic literature. To ensure
that the students are not deprived of the enormous Islamic legacy we have in the
Urdu language, this language too is taught at the Jameah as an independent
subject. On completion of this course as set out by the Jameah, the student is
able to read, write and comprehend Urdu freely.
Tarbiyyah:
Islamic discipline is the backbone of the
institution which is in accordance with the Islamic code. Knowledge enlightens
students and regulates their practices. But it is through Talbiyah that he
becomes an exemplary person for his people. Thus knowledge and Talbiyah are
complimentary and supportive to each other. The first thing Rasoolullah  did
after receiving the Qur’an was to translate the Words of Allah into action.
Aisha says, ‘Rasoolullah’s  morals
were the Qur’an.’ For this significant purpose Talbiyah programmes are conducted
regularly throughout the course.
Madh’hab:
Being
wary of the fact that we have students from different schools of thought Jameah
imparts Islamic jurisprudence on both, Hanafi and Shafi’ee schools of thought to
the respective students.
Articles:
In
its programme Jameah plans to print pamphlets for regular distribution among
the Ummat-e-Muslimah.
Computer Training:
Computers have become an inextricable instrument for academic advancement. It
represents the pencil of yonder days. These days practically every department is
run through computers. This is why Jameah deemed it necessary to train its
students on computer literacy, without which probably they may lag behind in
certain fields of learning and imparting.
Research:
Research work enhances the study of students. It stimulates his thoughts and
acquaints him with the vast literature outside his syllabus. Through research he
can derive benefit from reference books, thus prepare thesis on any given
topic. For this too Jameah provides time and guidelines to the students via its
library.
Darul Iftaa’:
The
Jameah has an Iftaa’ faculty, which issues verdicts relating to issues relating
to public interest and enquiries. This is a two year post graduate course
conducted and overseen by our learned sheikh Mufti Ashraf Quraishi sahib. Both
theoretical and practical exercises are offered to the student. Those questions
and answers are then added to out website.

Comparative Studies:
In
the face of the multifarious religions and ideologies in the world it has
become significantly important that the student be abreast with comparative
studies. Jameah has taken an initiative in that field too to enlighten the
students on the basic differences between Islam and some major religions of the
world.
Library:
The
library is a rendezvous for scholars. Jameah has a library comprising of a huge
collection of books in Arabic, Urdu and English. They cover a wide range of
topics, such as Tafseer, Hadith, Islamic jurisprudence and language etc.
Rules & Regulations:
Like
every institution Jameah has a set of rules and principles that must be abided
to by every student, failing to do so may turn out unfavourable for him. Regular
attendance and sound behaviour etc. must be observed strictly. For details

The above programmes can become fruit-bearing only through dedication, sincerity
and compliance with the rules by the student.

Exams:
Besides the mid-term and final exams, other tests will be conducted to assess
the progress and performance of students. Students lacking in their input, not
meeting the required standard of the institute or failing in any subject will be
required to either repeat the year or rewrite the paper before he could be
promoted, depending on the importance of the subject and outcome of the exams.
Facilities:
To
ensure that the student’s time and energy is effectively used and no time is
past idle necessary requirements and facilities, such as, boarding, lodging,
medical, laundry etc. are provided on the premises.
Fees:
Since
the Jameah’s prime aim and vision is to create capable scholars for the Ummah,
fee is kept to the minimum to meet its basic needs. Therefore an annual fee is
required to be paid in good time by the candidate. If the student is in
financial constrains he should contact the authorities to discuss his case.
Candidates:
To be
eligible for admission candidates should ensure that they have a reasonably
sound background both in Islamic learning and practise. Application for
admission should be made only if they have a positive zeal to learn, imbibe and
practise the Deen.
Admission:
Seat
for admission should be secured before the date of commencement of classes,
which is on the tenth of Shawwaal i.e. ten days after Ramadaan. By the fifteenth
of Shawwaal the candidate should be in for classes.

Being
wary of the fact that the student have parted from their near and dear ones, and
have staked their health and wealth for the pleasure of Allah, it will be
expected of them to apply themselves in full to attain maximum results for the
sake of Allah and pleasure of Rasoolullah .
