A BAD PLAN VERSUS THE BIBLEby Elder Ralph Harris Popular religion says, "Be good, and stay good, and you will go to heaven when you die." But the Bible says, "There is none good but one, that is, God" (Matt. 19:17). How many then, according to that proposition, would ever see heaven? Not a single soul! This is a bad plan. The Bible emphatically teaches that eternal salvation is "not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost" (Titus 3:5). The only goodness that can fit a person to enter heaven is that righteousness (the righteousness of Christ) which is imputed "without works" on their part (Romans 4:6). All who have this righteousness imputed to them will not have their sins imputed to them (See Romans 4:8). They will be glorified in the resurrection and will all be carried to that Upper World without the loss of one Christ came to do the will of His Father, and He said, "This is the Father’s will…that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day" (John 6:39). How many will see heaven according to this arrangement? Christ gives us the answer: "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out" (John 6:37-39). This is a good way—it is the Bible way—it includes every heir of grace, and it never fails.
