Forgiveness, Glory, Honor, Repentance, Rosh Ha Shana, Yom Kippur No Comments » Revelation 4:10-11 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.Yesterday, we talked about “tashlich” – the traditional Jewish ceremony occurring between Rosh ha Shana and Yom Kippur, which involves casting bread crumbs into a river while confessing our sins and watching them be swept downstream. In this passage, however, we read about the importance of casting our crowns. These elders fell down before the Lord, casted their golden crowns and gave God the glory and honor He deserves. How much more should we do the same today?Let’s spend this season casting our crowns — giving back to God the praise and adoration He so deserves for all that He has given us. He offered His only Son for our atonement, that we could be washed clean and live eternally — and even abundantly. He loves us, though we daily fail Him and grieve His Spirit with our thoughts and actions. He helps us in our times of need and gives us revelation when we seek Him. Thank you Lord, for ALL Your blessings toward us — You are Good and Your mercy endures forever — hallelujah! Sep 26 When the going gets tough, we’d better get tougher! Adversity, Attitude, Boldness, Commitment, Trials No Comments » 2 Thes. 1:11-12 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Almost every Jewish holiday season, we go door to door, predominantly in poor neighborhoods throughout Israel, delivering baskets full of food, toiletries and other gifts. This year, we’ve included a copy of my wife’s first cd, hot off the presses***!For those who don’t know, my wife Rivka has a phenomenal voice. The cd, called “Lazman Hazeh” (For Such a Time as This) contains twelve songs, all sung in Hebrew. And most of the lyrics are scriptures of God’s love, grace and encouragement for His people; they are crucial to the difficult times Israel is enduring right now. Also included on the album, is the song “Mercy Seat”, if you’ve heard of it, a very powerful song about God’s great mercy toward us when we run to Him.We’ll spare you the details of the battle we’ve had with this cd but I’ll just say this: you could not imagine to what great lengths the enemy went to try to terminate this project from coming to fruition this past year. Time and time again, right as we were nearing the finish, we hit another brick wall — so many tears, frustrations and wanting to just “throw in the towel” — we thought it would never get done! Then, yesterday, at our very first attempt to deliver baskets with the cd’s inside, our ministry van dies (”dies”, like our mechanic said that the value of the vehicle is not worth putting the money into fixing it). And if that wasn’t tough enough, today as we were delivering a second batch of baskets with our own little car, it too died — in fact, we barely made it home as we were driving through the dark highways of the Negev with two sleeping little one’s in the back seat!Okaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy…. I think it might be safe to say that our enemy is just a little upset about this album! But here’s the thing. We will continue to press forward to do the work of the Kingdom and we will prevail! If you’re going through some tough stuff today, we are so there with you, friend! But let’s get tougher — and get ourselves going! Let’s stand strong together for the Lord’s purposes, no matter the cost, no matter the obstacles! Because, you know it — there’s soooooo much work to be done!*** If you’d like to have a listen and/or purchase a cd, go to www.lazmanhazeh.com Each cd you buy will enable us to give away five in Israel. 100% the proceeds will be used to encourage and bless Israel. Sep 23 Crisis ahead! Opportunity, Peace No Comments » Galatians 6:9-10 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. As we’ve been watching the news recently, it seems the word of the hour is crisis! It seems everywhere we turn we hear it — it’s a “financial crisis”, a “political crisis” — international, environmental, spiritual crisis!I came across an interesting fact recently. The Chinese word for crisis is composed of two symbols. They represent two words: danger and opportunity. Hmm. I like that. When we’re in the midst of all these crises, it’s tempting to focus on the danger. While it’s important to be aware of the danger, we must be even more keenly aware of the opportunities it brings!God is allowing this world to be shaken a little today. Let’s prepare ourselves to be a means of peace and light and strength to those who are afraid. Let’s not grow weary in well doing – there’s so much work to be done! Sep 16 Tune it all out! Decisions, Guidance No Comments » 1 Kings 19:11-12 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. If your house is anything like my house –- sometimes it’s incredibly loud! Kids playing and screaming, my wife preparing for guests who are frequently here, news on the television behind me and praise and worship playing in the background, then…the phone rings.Suddenly it becomes imperative to tune everything out in order to hear the person calling. In the same way, when we’re listening for God’s direction, we need to tune everything else out…in order to tune in!In the above passage, God had something to say to Elijah. He first allowed some powerful and noisy manifestations; those things might have easily been mistaken for His voice. Then, a strong wind –- so strong in fact, that it tore the mountain apart right before Elijah’s very eyes. After that, an earthquake followed, and if that wasn’t enough, a fire! I would say by the time these massive events had passed, Elijah might have been a little distracted — don’t you think? But the Lord wasn’t in any of them. Then, God spoke to Elijah…. in a still, small, voice.I believe that God still speaks in that still small voice today. But are any of us able to hear Him with all the craziness around us? It is so necessary to tune out the noise so we can hear Him! When God has our full attention, not only can we come to know Him better, but we can receive the direction we’ve been longing for!
