SIX Power Plays for Bottom Fishing
As the old rule goes, buy on bad news, sell
on good.
Six Flags (SIX), $1.71, has been been
battered down from over $30/share,
and as spring approaches, the gates will be opening for record revenue.
Sprint (S), $6.80, has been wacked with a
$29 bil. write-down of its acquisition
of Nextel, which is a major toll of a slagging construction industry
poised for a spring thaw rebound. Don't overlook Sprint's book value
of over $18/share, with AT&T and Verizon trading at multiples of their
underlying book value.
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), $6.49 is
currently a steal from the high flying
prices it commanded during spectacular movements in the tech. sector.
Well established and a business and household name. Upgrades to
quad core machines will dramatically increase revenue.
Citigroup, (C), $21.17 another bottom
fishing opportunity at a rock bottom
fire sale price. While some of the other financials may be failing,
it certainly will not be Citigroup, which is supported by an attractive
dividend while waiting for a steady rebound during a reversal
of the current credit crisis.
Western Refining, (WAR), $17.18 down from a
peak of over $60/ share
last year, represents a fabulous buying opportunity, A perfect
play for exposure to the energy and production sector.
Don't expect this discount to last for long as short positions are
covered and buying resumes. Nice dividend also.
Liberty All Start Equity Fund, (USA), $6.53,
a closed end fund comprised
of a basket of great blue chip stocks, trading at an 80% discount
to net asset value, and paying a hefty 11.4% dividend. The fund
is well established and been around over a decade with an excellent
track record over the years.
Take the time to snatch up these rock bottom
power plays,
leaving bad news in the past to profit on the coming good news.
Tax rebate checks will begin rolling out in early May, putting some
cash in the hands of a whole lot of folks to line up buying new computers
with AMD chips in them, signing up for a new cell phone plan with Sprint,
sock some savings away with Citigroup, burn up some gasoline from
Western Refining traveling over the summer months, and doing a little
investing in the Liberty All Star Equity Fund.
The bulls are waking, ready to drive the
bears back to their cave
where they belong.
Bob :-)
