Its snowy crags grin menacingly at the sun, ignoring the ant crawling at it's feet. What is the ant to him, but a tickle, if felt at all? The business of the mountains are too lofty for ants, and thus they should be ignored. Yet the ant--I, Myrddin Emrys--set my face to the wind, and the silver thunder over which my legs straddled themselves lifts its head proudly against the cold spells of the mountains. He nor I will be defeated against them. Let them think of their lofty thoughts! I have an errand to run, and the message must be carried till death takes me, or the world's ending.Had to be a little crafty in my tales, bold wanderer. Reading as if a story were being weaved before you, you thought? Well, have a seat by the fire, friend. You have a horn there, I see? Let me fill it for you with a bit of draught that will wet your lips and parched throat, traveller. I have a small trout that I just put on the fire for you--I just caught it nigh three hours ago, when the rumor of your coming had reached my ears. The trees talk, friend; you ought be wary or your idle speech, for your lips travel more than your feet.The butt of my staff wanders through the glowing embers of the fire; randomly, yet with purpose. Prodding, turning a wayward lump of burning pine as a spark bursts a cascade of sparks, which dance about the rising plume of smoke like a band of fairies caught in the act of mischief. Poking and furrowing, uprighting a fallen brand, the base of the staff now warmed and stained black. What say you, Traveller? Speak! Nothing to say? Then I will continue. You think I am maddened by ramblings? I think you are maddened of lack of exposure, and your madness is portrayed upon me. But I am willing to play the part of a fool, if it grants me passage to where I need to go. For it is purpose that draws me nigh the eaves of the wood which cradle these mountains. Indeed!I am in the Spirit, and the Spirit instructs me to pray and study, to watch and to learn. I hold the watch this night and my heart is troubled. Yes, Merlin is troubled, but not for my own account. Since the Lord has brought me into His service as Prophet and Bard, my life has not been my own, and my business is oft found to be elsewhere at all times. It seems in prayer I have drifted off wandering the scattered pathways of time, years gone by in but a moment. In returning I find a forlorn world, in error and wantonness. I find the Lord is patient, but with a patience that is not that of the patience of Men. For to the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years a day. The Lord's patience and grace shows a need to act quickly, as this world's realm is quickly fading, and we are not increasing in years. My life will not endure, but God will, so I must seek to endure with the Spirit of the Lord, and with Christ as my Righteousness. So be it.
