Faith, Ecology, and Community Activism The Interfaith Coalition for the Environment, Welcomes you to our homepage on the web.The Mission and Purpose of the IFCE shall be: * To foster relationships and cooperation between the environmental and faith communities, towards solving common environmental concerns. * To share resources, ideas, and tools to work toward an increase in the knowledge of regional environmental groups and projects. * To increase the awareness and activism of the many faith-based groups which are striving to live together in harmony with all people and the earth, the Creators gift to us all. Who is the IFCE and What are we doing?The Interfaith Coalition for the Environment was founded in the winter of 1997 as a task force of Green Networking for Orange County (GNOC), in order to help support and promote faith-based communities work in the area of Environmental Justice. GNOC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group, acting as an information clearinghouse of local environmental groups & issues. IFCE relationship with GNOC has enabled us to accomplish two main goals. First, is that we are able to empower faith-based communities work in environmental justice by providing them with the tools and resources needed to put their concerns into action. Second, is that we are able to educate the envrionmental community about the many faith-based communities who are concered about environmental protection and healing. What are we doing? In order to accomplish our stated mission and purpose IFCE organized the first ever Orange County Conference on Religion and the Environment entiteled,"Caring for Creation: An Orange County Conference on Religion and the Environment." This conference was held with great success in October of 1998. Since then we have held a second conference, training meetings and networking gatherings. Plans are currently being made for our third conference along with other activities.
