helps Thousands of Children in South India and Thailand to escape
from poverty and provides care and assistance for Boys and Girls of
all ages
About The Joe Homan
Charity
The Joe Homan Charity is a UK Registered Charity
that raises funds for projects offering
relief from poverty for boys and girls overseas. Currently the
Charity works in partnership with local Non-Government Organisations
(NGOs) in South India and Thailand.
The Joe Homan Charity
aims to help disadvantaged children and improve their opportunities
and lifestyle by encouraging them to obtain education, and
vocational training to develop their self-esteem, thus enabling them
to break out of the poverty trap. The Charity also provides support
for their families and the local community.
The majority of our
work is funded through individual sponsorship
of the Children. General donations
support children and communities for whom no individual sponsors
have been found. All funding to NGOs is carefully assessed and
regular visits to supported projects, along with written reports and
receipts, allows the Charity to monitor the achievement.
Why?
More than 50 years after Indias independence, wealth distribution
has been very uneven, and population growth (currently over 1
Billion and rising) has far exceeded economic growth. As a result
there is still large-scale poverty in India, which has the worlds
largest number of poor people in a single country.
Who?
A large number of the population of India live in abject
poverty, unable to adequately feed, clothe, or educate their
children. In the cities there are many slum areas, and a severe lack
of clean water and basic hygiene. Rural areas also suffer, often
enduring long periods of drought and irregular low paid work.
How?
The Charity raises funds from individuals and support groups in the
UK and across the world. Children are delighted to think that
someone really cares for them sponsors receive regular updates and
enjoy sharing in their success as they achieve their goals in life.
We also give aid to their families and improve the quality of life
within the local community.
Where?
Our work is focused in the Southernmost State of India, Tamil Nadu,
near the Temple City of Madurai.
