This site is intended to be a reference for people learning about space history, whether they are students or just space enthusiasts. You will find information about the manned missions to Earth orbit and the Moon during the 1960's and 1970's in the Encyclopedia. In the Multimedia archives you will have access to many photographs, audio recordings, and videos. The sites content was limited to the earlier American space programs for two reasons. The first reason is that it is the era of space exploration that interests me the most. The second reason is that the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs have ended while the Shuttle and Space Station are still active programs and it would be too hard for me to keep the site up to date. I hope to add information about the Soviet space programs in the future. Please feel free to Contact Us if you have any comments or questions about the site. Each program benefited from the one before it, and each accomplished it's goals. Although the space race was originally a competition between two cold war foes, it ultimately resulted in many benefits for the people of the Earth. Mercury - Gemini - Apollo - Skylab - Apollo-Soyuz People At the peak of the Apollo program, roughly 400,000 people worked for NASA or one of it's contractors. Every person involved in the space program had an important role and a lot of responsibility. Astronauts - Government - NASA - Other Technology The astronauts obviously would not have gotten off the Earth without technology. This section of the encyclopedia will provide information about the rockets, spacecrafts, space suits, and other equipment used by NASA to make space exploration possible. Rockets - Satellites & Probes - Spacecrafts Space Suits - Miscellaneous Documents NASA is a very open agency and much of their documentation is available to the public. I will try to link to as many of these documents as possible in this section of the encyclopedia. Presidential Speeches - Treaties & Laws - Timeline Multimedia NASA took thousands of photographs during the space race, and many of them are available on the internet.
