Most Minneapolis - St. Paul singings use the 1991 edition of the Sacred Harp, while some use the Cooper Revision. Shape note singing is a participatory event, not a performance, although visitors are welcome to come and listen. The singers sit in a hollow square facing each other and take turns leading songs. The songs are sung in three or four parts without instrumental accompaniment. The music has a distinctive open and modal sound, and the singing is usually exuberant, rhythmic and full of feeling. Shape Note Singing in Minneapolis - St. PaulOur group has been singing from the Sacred Harp for over 25 years. Copies of The Sacred Harp are available to borrow during the singing. We usually have between 20 and 40 people at a given Sunday night singing. The schedule of singings tells about the next few singings. You can subscribe to the mailing list by e-mailing mnfasola-subscribe@egroups.com to receive notification of schedule changes and social events.
