For years, I watched a
mystery on the Gaither Homecoming stage. Somewhere in the second half of the
show, Bill Gaither would invite a silver-haired bass singer forward to sing
a verse or two of a song. I always wondered where that bass voice came from,
and why we didn’t get to hear more of it.

upon multitudes of songs out there waiting for us to listen to them. All
special in their own way with a musical fingerprint of the one or more who

 With
more than two hundred concert dates each year, Dell, Susan, Richard and
Kelly Hyssong are rarely home more than a week at a time. The Hyssongs
(pronounced ‘his-songs’ and not to be confused with the male trio from
Tennessee) are one of the busiest Southern Gospel groups in the industry.
They tour extensively throughout the United States sharing the message of
Jesus Christ.

Southern Gospel appears to be embracing more youth as new groups and
soloists appear on the horizon. Artists who are teenagers and
twenty-year-olds are putting their stamp on music that existed years before
they were born. The youth who are called the “Y Generation”, those born
after 1981, are breathing new life into gospel but it appears that when it
comes to filling pews, they are the “Why” Generation.
