What is the ICAD Listserv? | Who can belong to ICAD? | What does it cost? | How do I join? | How do I participate? | ICAD-Digest | Other listserver Instructions | ICAD Messages by Topic What is the ICAD Listserv? ICAD-L is an electronic mail network on the topic of abuse & disability. ICAD began in October of 1993. Currently about 200 people in twelve countries have joined. They include researchers, clinicians, people with disabilities, parents, and others interested in this topic Who can belong to the ICAD List? To belong to the ICAD List a person must have access to an electronic mailing address with a gateway to the Internet. This includes users of Internet, America On-Line, Compuserve, and most other similar networks. Currently invitations are being sent to researchers, parents, educators, parents, and others interested in this topic. What does it cost? There is no charge for belonging to the ICAD List. The service is provided for free. If you pay a charge to your network for electronic mail received or sent, those charges will depend on use. How do I join? To join, send an e-mail message to: majordomo@majordomo.srv.ualberta.ca and in the body of the message type: subscribe ICAD The listserver will acknowledge your message. If you have any difficulty contact dick.sobsey@ualberta.ca. How do I participate? Once on the list you will receive mail from other list members on conferences, books, news, research, and other topics related to abuse and disability. You can also post messages to the list at any time and messages posted to the list will go to all list members. Once subscribed, if you want to send a message, simply address it to: icad@majordomo.srv.ualberta.ca. The listserver automatically will post it to all list members. The list will provide the most up to the minute information vial e-mail. It posts individual messages to subscribers as soon as possible after they are received. It's ideal for people who want the most current information or the opportunity to participate in discussion as it unfolds. As a list member, you will also receive information on how you can use the ICAD ftp server, another free service. This allows the downloading of more extensive documents (e.g., grant reports and conference presentations) on this topic directly to your computer. You will also be able to place your documents on this server to allow access to others. ICAD-Digest ICAD-Digest provides the same information at less frequent intervals. Messages are stored and electronically posted to digest subscribers at varying intervals, depending on the number of messages and urgency of the material received. Usually these intervals will be once a week. Each digest issue includes all the individual messages since the previous digest issue collated into a single e-mail message. To subscribe to ICAD-Digest you must send an e-mail message to: majordomo@majordomo.srv.ualberta.ca and in the body of the message type: subscribe icad-digest The listserver will acknowledge your message. If you have any difficulty contact dick.sobsey@ualberta.ca. As a list member, you will also receive information on how you can use the Inclusion ftp server, another free service. This allows the downloading of more extensive documents (e.g., grant reports and conference presentations) on this topic directly to your computer. You will also be able to place your documents on this server to allow access to others. Other Listserver Instructions Instructions are sent to the LISTSERVER and not the list. They should be addressed to: majordomo@majordomo.srv.ualberta.ca Do not include any subject (or if your mail program requires a subject, place the command in the subject field).
