Welcome to the CEFCThe French Centre for Research on Contemporary China (CEFC) is a publicly funded research institute, based in Hong Kong, and established in 1991. A branch office has also been set up in Taipei. Five researchers, four PhD candidates and eight research fellows currently work at the CEFC.A scientific board, composed of academics, convenes in Paris every year to determine of the CEFC's scientific policy.The CEFC organises frequent seminars and conferences. It also publishes a quarterly, Perspectives chinoises, and it's English edition, China Perspectives. These two journals are entirely devoted to the contemporary Chinese world on which they provide thorough socio-political, economic, cultural and literary analysis.In 1994, the CEFC opened a branch in Taipei on the campus of the Academica Sinica (in Nankang). The branch receives research fellows and has close working ties with Taiwanese universities.The CEFC was founded by Michel Bonnin, who became its first director (1991-1998), followed by Jean-Pierre Cabestan (1998-2003) and, Gilles Guiheux (2003-2006). Jean-François Huchet is currently the director.Â
