A week ago, we took Ben and a friend of his to the Iowa State Fair. The area in front of the grandstand featured a contest where you could display mad air guitar skills. If you would like to see us in action, click here. I’m the dorky one and Ben is the drummer. The other guitarist is a neighbor kid named Zach.The URL has my last name misspelled, so I hope that doesn’t disqualify me for the grand prize! That prize is a trip for two to Hawaii, including a New Year’s concert by Foreigner. At the end of the show, the contest winner get’s Mick Jone’s guitar. How sweet is that?Seriously, check out my moves! You can comment on our skill and vote me all the way to Hawaii. Vote early and vote often, and I’ll send you a postcard. Registration is not a requirement to vote so get to it!Bonus humor. Foreigner has been around for a while now. I wonder if that had anything to do with their choice of a sponsor. Pretty bad. No details will be coming from this blog, but let’s just say that I need you to pray for me. I need it pretty bad.Psalm 51No, I did not commit adultery or murder, for those who may wonder based on the reference above. But that Psalm is one that is really speaking to me at the moment. May we all continue to find grace in the finished work of Christ, and may that grace overflow in our lives in waves of mercy, forgiveness and renewal.

I don’t know how many of you have been listening to the White Horse Inn podcast. It is at the top of my list of favorite podcasts, and I have found the content to be edifying to me for the last few years, no matter where I am in my Christian growth. I have not been a Christian for all that long, you see, and counting only the time following my conversion I have listened to this podcast for a longer span of time than not.The theme for 2008 is “Christless Christianity” and the latest episode, entitled “What Would Moses Do” has highlighted a topic that I wish I could have grasped a long time ago. That topic involves the difference between Law and Gospel. Both themes have examples in each of the testaments, and to my untrained eye, the difference between the two can be summarized by terms of responsibility. Continue Reading »

Genesis 35-36I find it to be quite interesting that there is no significant fallout after the prostituting of the covenant sign on the part of Jacob’s sons as well as the lack of leadership on the part of Jacob. God’s word to Jacob completely omits any mention of this or any of his other failings. Instead, He told Jacob to move to Bethel. This command wasn’t given so Jacob could flee the area where so much violence had taken place, but so Jacob could fulfill his vow before God. Continue Reading »
