"
FLAMES & 106's"
0351
"
Ain't Nuthin Like Humppin a Zippo"
I
served in the United States Marine Corps from Oct 1, 1964
through
March 5, 1969. While in the Corps, I had four MOS's.
First
MOS was 2571,
however I was "denied" a Top Security Clearance
and MOS
was then Changed to 2533.
Served in that Capacity until I was
again
"denied" a "Secret" Clearance.
Then
I was transferred to the First Battalion, 27th Marines for Jungle
Warfare
Training in Kaneohe Hawaii. Finally, I was in an outfit where
I
felt like I belonged. My
MOS was changed to 0351,
which officially
was
titled "Anti Tank Assaultman", but we more commonly referred to it
as
"Flames and 106's"....I was put in "Flames", or as we called
it,
"Zippo
Humpper"
Serving
with 1/27 in Vietnam was the most meaningful thing I have ever
done
in my entire life....
After
being wounded a few cliks from Hue City in 68, I was medivaced
to
Phu Bai, then DaNang, and then to Yokosuka, Japan...Spent 6 weeks
there
then shipped to Okinawa and back to the world....my last duty station
was
back at Parris Island...Again my MOS
was changed to 0141...
they
stuck me in Regimental Headquarters filing papers. I should have
gotten
out of the Corps in Oct 1968, but since I had 5 months and 5 days of
"Bad
Time" to make up, they kept me in......
YEP.....I
WUZ A SHITBIRD !!!

If
the dumb mutherfuckin' politician pukeheads would just let us alone and let us
do our jobs, we'd be outta here and back to the World in no time at all.
Shit!! No arty, no fixed wing, no direct support
from those dumbshit, poor-ass tank crews; just
our damned M-16s and grenades and they want us to root out a regiment of
entrenched NVA in a day or two. Well, let them
dumb asshole politicians come over here and follow me around
for a minute or two, and see what kind of
bullshit happens when dumbshit mutherfuckin' politicians start
calling the shots on the ground. Jesus H. Christ,
why can't they stick to kissing asses and

The Way
I Got it Figured
"DOC"
is the
definition of
"HERO"
Never
Have So Few, Given So Much !!
I’m the
one called "Doc"
I shall not
walk in your footsteps,
but I will
walk by your side.
I shall not
walk in your image,
I’ve
earned my own title of pride.
We’ve
answered the call together,
on sea and
foreign land.
When the cry
for help was given,
I’ve been
there right at hand.
Whether I am
on the ocean
or in the
jungle wearing greens,
Giving aid
to my fellow man,
be it
Sailors or Marines.
So the next
time you see a corpsman
and you
think of calling him "squid",
think of the
job he’s doing
as those
before him did.
And if you
ever have to go out there
and your
life is on the block,
Look at the
one right next to you...
I’m the
one called "Doc".

"ITS
JUST A NAM THING"
I came upon a "NO BULLSHIT" web page, and soon discovered it also had
a CD for sale called, "ITS JUST A NAM THING". i'LL admit I was
skeptical about how good a CD could an Ole Grunt put out. Well, I let the man
know how I felt, and I got one of his CD's...I listened to the CD, then I
started it over and read and sang along with it...the words are included. The
voice, the words and the meaning took me back to the brothers I miss, had me
walking the streets looking for a Vet, and had me proud to be a United States
Marine once upon a time....defending our great country....and I hadn't even left
the room...If you haven't got one, go get one, you'll be glad you did.....
SEMPER FIDELIS ...." RED DOG "
Dane,
I just finished listening to the CD, "Its Just a Nam Thing", and all I
can say is WOW !! It leaves me almost speechless !!!............It was really
overwhelming, the lyrics alone are so moving, but in conjunction with the music,
the songs become so powerful, filled with a mixture of rhythms that all
generations can relate to them. All the songs were deep from within one's soul,
explicit of one's own dreary stint in the war.... I was overcome with emotions
when i heard the very first song, " Just an Old Viet Vet"...The
closing chorus telling of the Old Man being a decorated War Hero & yet all
forgotten. It's all too familiar with so many of our own War Hero's that it
consumes you with anger & sadness all at the same time. The songs really hit
the truth of the matter of so many forgotten & troubled Veterans. Hopefully
this CD will have more of a bearing for all who hears it, than just some kind of
closure for a Vietnam Vet or Veteran of any war. All of you did a GREAT JOB
recording them.

HEY !!!, Your CD is AWESOME !!! i
loveed your CD...I am so proud of you for putting it together. I am sure it was

I recently received my copy of the
"Its Just a Nam Thing" CD and haven't been able to take it off of my
player. I am a great fan of SEA music, have a collection of songs by the great
singer/songwriters, Dick Jones, "Bull" Durham, etc. In my opinion
" Its Just a Nam Thing" rates right up there with the best that I've
heard. I recommend it to warriors of all services. If you've been there, done
that, there is something for you here

I am awe struck at the range of
emotions that the songs covered with the different type of song styles you
used...Rock and Roll, Sixties type music, and the last song M-Day3 just brought
me to my knees. I really liked "The Corps", "Its Just a Nam
Thing", "The Boys From 1/27" .....The background sounds were
AWESOME !

Dane,
I received your CD about 2 weeks ago. The first think I did was go for a ride
down the river with it blasting on my cd player in my truck..I listened to it
over and over and agree with your description of " it's a must have, for
every Viet Vet"....I was 11bravo40 Army Infantry Central Highlands, 1st of
the 14th Infantry 4th Division SSgt platoon leader in 69..I have a good bro
"Keith Kruse", Marine 0311 68'..who lives in Prescott Arizona. I sent
him the CD just knowing how much it would mean to him also...He has a friend at
the Vet Center in Prescott where they are playing it now...I just ordered two
more. One to replace mine, and one to replace his.. Keep up the good work bro..I
have a large website and will help you promote this wonderful salute to all us
Vets....many like Keith and I...100 Percent permanent/Total. Love Ya Bro....

The first time I played Welcome Home Bro I was listening while doing something
else. Without warning "Ghost Gunner" put me on the floor under the
kitchen counter. Took a minute to collect myself and realize there wasn't an
M60 cook'n off in my living room. Exciting doesn't cover it. My favorite song
is "Ole Viet Vet". We all know this hero, and Dane brings him to
life. If "Letter to Doc" doesn't choke you up, nothing will. Dane
Brown and the 1/27 Grunts have brought it all home. To Dane I say: Thanks and
Welcome Home Bro. Semper Fi.
Outstanding! I have two copies of this CD and keep one at home and the other
in the car. When I'm in the car alone I can turn up the volume and no one
knows when the eyes spring a leak. Again I say - Outstanding!
