You won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country." General George S. Patton Fort Knox Kentucky - The General George Patton Museum http://www.knox.army.mil/museum fresh link... Virginia Military Institute http://www.vmi.edu/museum      On July 28, 1944, Chief Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower finally turned Patton loose on the Germans.  In less than two weeks, Patton's army attacked the Germans harder than they had ever been hit.  In one non-stop blitzkreig attack, never stopping, dishing out only fire and murder, the 3rd army pushed the Germans back more than 600 miles in only two weeks leaving nothing in their wake but destruction and death.  Patton loved to attack. Only attack... refusing to let American boys die taking the same ground more than once like he had seen in the fields of France during the Great War in 1917.      By the time the shooting stopped in Europe, Patton's army had inflicted more than 1,500,000 casualties against the German enemy.  The only time Patton ever slowed down was when his 3rd army liberated the Nazi Concentration camp at Buchenwald.  When he saw what the Germans had done to the Jews and Gypsies of Europe he was so disgusted that he immediately enacted a strict policy forcing all German citizens in neighboring cities and towns to tour the camps to witness the result of their their hateful nationalism.  Other generals adopted Patton's policy upon liberating other concentration camps. You won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. Men, all this stuff you've heard about America not wanting to fight, wanting to stay out of the war, is a lot of horse dung. Americans traditionally love to fight. ALL REAL Americans, love the sting of battle. When you were kids, you all admired the champion marble shooter, the fastest runner, the big league ball players, the toughest boxers . . . Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in Hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war. Because the very thought of losing is hateful to Americans. Now, an army is a team. It lives, eats, sleeps, fights as a team. This individuality stuff is a bunch of crap. The bilious bastards who wrote that stuff about individuality for the Saturday Evening Post, don't know anything more about real battle than they do about fornicating. Now we have the finest food and equipment, the best spirit, and the best men in the world. You know . . . My God, I actually pity those poor bastards we're going up against. My God, I do. We're not just going to shoot the bastards, we're going to cut out their living guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun bastards by the bushel. Now some of you boys, I know, are wondering whether or not you'll chicken out under fire. Don't worry about it. I can assure you that you'll all do your duty. The Nazis are the enemy. Wade into them. Spill their blood, shoot them in the belly. When you put your hand into a bunch of goo, that a moment before was your best friends face, you'll know what to do. Now there's another thing I want you to remember. I don't want to get any messages saying that we are holding our position. We're not holding anything, we'll let the Hun do that. We are advancing constantly, and we're not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy. We're going to hold onto him by the nose, and we're going to kick him in the ass. We're going to kick the hell out of him all the time, and we're going to go through him like crap through a goose. Now, there's one thing that you men will be able to say when you get back home, and you may thank God for it. Thirty years from now when you're sitting around your fireside with your grandson on your knee, and he asks you, "What did you do in the great World War Two?" You won't have to say, "Well, I shoveled shit in Louisiana." Alright now, you sons of bitches, you know how I feel. Oh! . . . I will be proud to lead you wonderful guys into battle anytime, anywhere. That's all." General George S. Patton -   England,  May 31, 1944 patton_pissed300w.jpg (58133 bytes) This picture was taken in September 1944. Throughout the War, many deaths of American G.I.'s were attributed to poor distribution and allocation of supplies.  Many successful advances by Army troops were stopped dead in their tracks by lack of fuel and ammo. Leaving troops stuck and completely ineffective against German counter-attack. This picture shows the faces of Patton and his generals when they heard that only 1/3rd of the needed gas had been delivered and that Bradley had been ordered by Eisenhower to deny the Third Army gas. Info Courtesty of  Barbara Boland info@barbaraboland.com General Patton training troops at Fort Benning Georgia in 1941.  Patton personally drove a tank through the "strip" of bars and cat houses across the river at Phenix City Alabama whose residents frequently robbed, beat and even murdered soldiers on weekend pass.  Somehow missed by history, Phenix City, a mob run city in Alabama in the 1930's and into the early 1950's, was the site of many violent attacks against blacks and whites due  to the organized crime activity. In 1954 a military government was installed, and the arrest of hundreds of mobsters, and ejection from town of thousands, and dynamite destruction of many buildings, finally cleaned up the town.    Patton and Colored Troops patton_ft_benning200.jpg (34187 bytes) "I don't care what color you are, so long as you go up there and kill those Kraut sonsabitches." General Patton Addressing First Colored Tank Units in 1944. When Patton was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, the white trash of Junction City's honky-tonk row captured and threatened to kill one of his black non-commissioned officers. Patton ordered his calvary to mount, borrowed a cannon, and moved against that notoriously bad area. He threatened to level the area unless his man was released. The man promptly was.
