Kitsumkalum is one of fourteen Tsimshian Tribes that has occupied traditional territories in northwest British Columbia for thousands of years. In modern times, the Tsimshian Nation now consists of seven tribes: Gidestsu (Kitasoo or Klemtu), Gitk'a'ata (Hartley Bay), GitkxaaLa (Kitkatla), Gits'ilaasu (Kitselas), Gitsmgeelm (Kitsumkalum), Lax Kw'Alaams (Port Simpson) and Metlakatla. Kitsumkalum has traditional territory in the Kitsumkalum Valley along the Skeena River, and along the northwest coast of British Columbia. Through training and education (both traditional and non-traditional), the Kitsumkalum people have adeptly combined aspects of their traditional culture within a modern economy and socio-political context. Since the Su-sit' Aatk ceremonies, Kitsumkalum is in the process of the eventual revival of its Tsimshian culture practices and making advancements towards the resolution of a treaty for Kitsumkalum and the Tsimshian Nation for future generations. Kitsumkalum is seeking an official form of self-government that incorporates the traditional clan system and allows our First Nation to properly manage our resources well into the future. The people of Kitsumkalum invite you to visit the House of Sim-oi-Ghets Gift Shop and General Store to shop for authentic First Nations arts & crafts. The Tempo Gas Bar offers full fuel services, including diesel and marine fuel, fishing tackle, large convenience store. As well 24 hour operational Touchless Car Wash. The Kitsumkalum Boat Launch and RV Park offers close and easy access to the world famous Skeena River.
