I’ve Broken Twitter

So yesterday, I — with the help of a couple of other people — noticed that there is a Twitter account (makesmewant) that retweets everything with the words “makes me want” in it. We also noticed that there was one (heinekennv) that retweeted everything with “Heineken” in it.There must be loads of these bots (all powered by Twitterfeed I bet), but it seemed like an amusing way to poke the internets to see if it would be possible to get them talking to each other on an endless loop. All you would have to do, I figured, would be to say something “makes me want Heineken”.I tried it, and sure enough they passed a couple of messages back and forwards. But they seemed to run out of steam for some reason, and, half an hour later they were no longer in a loop. Which was probably just as well, because having not thought it through, I’d prefaced this little experiment as an @reply to someone, and I feared that I would have inadvertently flooded their reply page with this bot-conversation.But, they have, inadvertently done it to me. And now I have a full two (and growing) pages of these two bots talking to each other filling up my replies.Picture 5.png@twitter, I’m very sorry. I probably asked for that huh?

Making Your Own Entertainment

I’m sitting in our Lancaster house right now, surrounded by boxes, crates and furniture. The only sounds are the crackling of the fire (Duralog FTW!) and the purring of a cat who only very recently realised where she was.Apart from the general sense of fatigue and exhaustion (I am not a strong man, and there were a lot of boxes), and the inevitable yearning to be with my wife (whom I miss terribly–we only had a week together before I had to come back, and now we have to wait for red tape), I have to confess to slight feeling of ‘boredom’ this evening.Truth be told, I’m (as I said) knackered. And this is the first night in about a week that I’ve had to sit down without feeling that there were a million things to do the next day. In fact, thinking about it, tomorrow is the first day for a week that I will have spent in one city. Not driving/training between two. But, having unpacked the essentials (coffee, sugar, socks and cork-screw) I haven’t had the chance to unpack the convoluted system that I call “the TV”.(My Elgato box. Nothing to do with my old blog. Sorry)I made a fortunate discovery the other night, that (internet-less as I am, and therefore devoid of my usual iPlayer entertainments) I had a fair-few episodes of CSI:Wherever and a couple of Sherlock Holmeses stored in a playlist in iTunes. But I’ve run out of the ones that I’ve not watched, and I haven’t the energy to go and try and find which box holds the hard disk with several Movies From Thauâ„¢.My point being, the house is quiet, apart from the crackle of the fire. Which is probably what it was like when it was first built, a hundred years ago. And it struck me s slightly sad that I felt I had nothing to do, without a TV in the corner–or rather, that getting the TV up and running again was a significant job to do, so that I had something to occupy myself with. There’s always that cliché, isn’t there, that VIctorians used to all sit round the fire and make their own entertainment.Or is it Old People that did that?Regardless–some fictitious group of people, from a bygone age, all used to sit around a fire and entertain themselves. I dunno, it just struck me as a waste is all–that I should feel the need to plug a few things together in order to give myself something to pass the time.Every now and again, I have momentous flurries of creativity, during which I generate reams of genius-inspired code. And I wonder, what it would be like for that to happen all the time, rather than have large chunks of time filled in by monotonous garbage on the telly. I mean, imagine if every single waking second of your [however many] years was spent making things. My god, it would be insane. And maybe that’s the point — that the weeks/months/years of passive TV-based relaxation are necessary. Someone once told me that we dream so that being awake isn’t too scary. Someone else told me that the only purpose of us being awake is so that we can dream when we’re asleep. And I suppose, it’s possible that the reason we need to watch mindless TV, is so that half-way through an advert for DFS sofas, we can reassure ourselves that, given the opportunity, we could do so much better, and, one day, we will.

Timeline Gaps

I’m currently trying to grab everything I can together, that will help our application for Thau’s marriage visa. THere are several things I have to be able to prove — mostly revolving around being able to support us both (even though she’s working), and house us both. I have a big bundle of papers here right now:Mortgage statementBank statementsPayslips (including my P60)Birth certificateDriving licence(Although, only half of it. My wallet was stolen with the photo-card part of it in it, and I haven’t got a replacement yet)Term timetable(To prove that I need to be back in the UK in two weeks)Travel itinery(To prove that my flight back is booked)Gas billMy main concern though (apart from my dilemma about whether or not I can take a suit-carrier onboard a plane with me) is that there are a couple of gaps in my documents — I’m missing my June/July bank statements, and my April and June payslips. The payslips (I’m almost certain) are on my desk at work, but I’ve no idea where the bank statements are.
