Election of William Lacy Swing as Director General of IOM On behalf of the United States Government, the U.S. Mission would like to express its deep gratitude to all those governments represented in Geneva who provided their support for the election of Ambassador William Lacy Swing to be the next Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). As Ambassador Swing said following the vote, “the first-ever contested campaign for Director General illustrates the importance of migration to governments around the globe and IOM’s role in assisting them manage migration to the benefit of all.” The U.S. would like to commend the other candidates who contributed to a spirited campaign.
