Simon Lake's 'Explorer' Submarine - Milford, Connecticut Simon Lake's Explorer Submarinein Milford, ConnecticutExplorer is located at Milford Landing Marina, 37 Helwig St. Milford Connecticut 06460.From the plaque: The Explorer, completed in 1936, was the last boatbuilt by the pioneering submarine designer and builder, Simon Lake. TheExplorer was intended strictly for research and salvage and waslinked to a mother ship for air and power. Divers could enter and leave thesubmarine through an escape hatch. The boat was also equipped with amechanical arm and basket. Like Simon Lake's first great submarine, TheArgonaut, Jr. (1894), the Explorer could travel underwater either by the propeller or along the ocean floor on drivewheels.Select a thumbnail image to view a larger image.Use your browser'back' button to return to this page.
