JBJ was a high flying lawyer who could have become chief justice or a prominent senior counsel but he chose to pursue his passion in politics, and took on the mighty Lee wehrmacht. After having secured two consecutive election victories in the Anson constituency, he was bankrupted, tarred and feathered, and made to suffer ruinous losses. But rather than relinquish his fight for democracy and freedom, the blows at him only steeled his resolve. He was reduced to peddling his books all over Singapore in the streets (no bookstore would dare stock it for fear of retribution from the FamiLee). Yet not once was the fire in his spirit quenched. HE soldiered on to be readmitted into the bar, pay off his creditors and as late as last year, announced the formation of a new party in Singapore, the Reform Party. But ill-health took its toll, and on 30th September, 2008 his long suffering body received eternal rest. I guess it can be said that in death, JBJ defeated Lee the Father who promised to make him grovel and beg for mercy. Till the end he denied the Father that pleasure. Goodbye, Uncle Jeya. Alfian was a teacher in a nondescript secondary school and was apparently a very good teacher at that. He was also a top student with outstanding results for his A levels. He applied to be a relief teacher and got the fucking job. No problems there, right? Right... A few months later, the Ministry sends him a nicely worded letter saying "get the fuck out, douchebag. We don't want your kind here". Naturally Alfian got pissed and asked for an explanation, and he got one. Now folks, whoever drafted that letter ought to be in charge of the space programme. That man has a gift. the Ministry of Education sets stringent criteria in the recruitment of relief teachers. This is understandably so when we strive to achieve a high standard in Education. With keen competition, this Ministry has an arduous task of considering each applicant based on several factors. MOE needs to determine which applicants most appropriately meet its organisational needs. In the registering of relief teachers, we look at each applicant in view of the specific requirements of the Ministry at the time, considering each application as a whole, on its own merit. While many capable candidates apply every year, only those that best meet the organisation's requirements will be considered for appointment.Yeeeeaaaaaahhhh right.
