Welcome to CNPEA!
This website provides information to raise awareness of key issues around abuse
and neglect in later life and to assure older adults are treated as full citizens in Canadian society.
The site is intended to help people access and share information on abuse and
neglect issues in later life, as well as learn more about what is being done
across Canada
to address this important health, social and legal issue.

Canada Hosts the World!
The World Elder Abuse Awareness conference in Ottawa June 16-17, 2008 provided an
outstanding opportunity for people across Canada to learn about innovative
programs, policies and services designed to combat abuse and neglect of older
women and men. This
is a human rights violation that can be prevented. Canada is making progress, but
still has a way to go before the goal can be accomplished.
Canada was
chosen to host the 2008 event in recognition of the contribution that it has
played to knowledge development in this area and because of current government
initiatives. This was a "don't miss" event!! Over 170 people from 22
countries attended.
The first INPEA
Elder Abuse Awareness Day was held at the UN in New York in 2006. The second was
in Geneva in 2007.
