Other members immigrated to California, Australia, and the United Kingdom.   Cash family   This branch of the Cash family is first found in Kilcormac, Co. Offaly, Ireland (then called Frankford, Kings Co.) in the early 1800s. It is not known how this family is related, if at all, to other Cash families located in Scotland, England, or other parts of Ireland.  Several Cash families lived in the Kilcormac area before the Famine as recorded in the Roman Catholic registers for Ballyboy Parish. My ancestor, William Cash (1807-1880), was born in or near Frankford (now Kilcormac), Ballyboy parish, in 1807. At the age of 20 he joined the 75th Regiment of Foot (originally a Scottish Highland infantry regiment), which was stationed at the time in nearby Birr.  He served in the 75th Foot from 1827 to 1848.  He spent 13 years at the Cape of Good Hope during the 1830s and early 1840s, and he received the 1853 South Africa Medal along with the rest of his regiment.  In his last few years of service, he performed guard duty at Pendennis Castle, near Falmouth, England.  Upon retiring, he received a pension of one shilling per day. In February 1850 he moved from Dublin to Co. Monaghan.  He soon married Catherine McConnon (about 1821-1894), whose family was living in Togan (a townland), Threemilehouse, Co. Monaghan. There they raised their family on a piece of a land that was about 5 acres, just down the lane from the McConnons. Descendants of this family live in Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, the United States, and no doubt in other countries. In the 20th century some members of this Cash family immigrated to Haverhill, Massachusetts. The known children of William Cash and Catherine McConnon were: Catherine Cash. Born after 1850. Married Peter McGuire of Brandrum, Co. Monaghan. Died before 1901. John Cash. Born about 1853. Married Margaret McEneaney in 1887. Died November 23, 1907 in Togan, Co. Monaghan. Margaret Cash. Born about 1857. Married James Gormley in 1876. William Cash. Born June 5, 1861. Married Elizabeth Sullivan of Brosna, Co. Kerry. Died September 18, 1926 in Cork, Co. Cork. Patrick Cash. Born March 10, 1864. Died August 10, 1866 in Co. Monaghan. Elizabeth Cash. Born about 1868. Married Joseph McEneaney. Died January 8, 1920 in Co. Monaghan.   McConnon family in Co. Monaghan   This branch of the McConnon family was living in the townland of Togan, in the Threemilehouse, Co. Monaghan area by the 1700s. The McConnons are thought to have come from the Lisdoonan area near Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan. Francis McConnon was born before 1746 in Togan, Drumsnat, Co. Monaghan, and died about 1810 there. (This Francis may be the son of the Thomas McConnin who is buried in Drumsnat cemetery and whose gravestone gives his death date as March 10, 1781 and his age at death as 78.) Francis and his unknown wife had two sons that are known: Thomas McConnon (about 1778-about 1850) and John McConnon (about 1790-died July 31, 1865). Known children of Thomas McConnon (about 1778-about 1850) are: Francis McConnon. Born about 1807. Married first Anne Whelan on December 10, 1838. Married second Mary Canaway (Conway) on September 17, 1846. Died November 4, 1872 in Togan. James McConnon. Born about 1819. Married Brigid O'Brien on January 29, 1855. Died March 27, 1883 in Togan. Margaret McConnon. Married James Whelan on June 17, 1840. Catherine McConnon. Born about 1821. Married William Cash on September 19, 1850. Died May 19, 1894 in Togan. Anne McConnon. Married Patrick Fitzsimons on July 10, 1845. Known children of John McConnon (about 1790-died July 31, 1865) and Catherine McMahon are: Rose McConnon. Born about 1829. Died August 28, 1889. Francis McConnon. Born about 1841. Married Rose Greenan. Died August 9, 1917. Note: There is a new DVD called A Heritage Trail of Kilmore & Drumsnat, which is about the Monaghan parish in which Threemilehouse and Togan are located. For information about ordering the CD, go to this location: http://www.irish-dvds.com/index.html?_ret_=return. Callaghan family in Co. Cork   This branch of the Callaghan/Callahan family is from Kilcorney, Co. Cork, Ireland, from townlands such as Knockgorm, Glenleigh, and Horsemount. Allied families are Riordan, Howard, Buckley, and Sullivan. In the 1880s several members of this Callaghan family immigrated to Haverhill, Massachusetts. In the 20th century, other family members also moved to Haverhill and elsewhere while others remained in Co. Cork. Timothy Callahan was born in Co. Cork about 1838, a son of John Callahan and his wife Mary (according to Timothy's death certificate). (A Timothy Callaghan was baptized on July 30, 1837 in Banteer parish, Co. Cork. The address is Googans. The parents were recorded as John Callaghan and Mary Crimin. The sponsors were Cornelius Sheehan and Mary Callaghan.) Timothy Callahan died in Haverhill, MA, on July 25, 1892. Timothy Callahan married Catherine Sullivan on February 4, 1857 in Banteer parish, Co. Cork. Catherine Sullivan was baptized on May 26, 1834 in Banteer parish, a daughter of Jeremiah Sullivan and Mary Riordan (according to Catherine's baptism records and her death certificate). Catherine died in Haverhill, MA, on July 6, 1900. Several of their children immigrated to Massachusetts about the time they did, while their son John stayed in Ireland on the family farm. A Jeremiah Sullivan, age 100, died on February 1, 1873 in Knockgorm, Kilcorney. Timothy Callahan was the informant.  Because of this Jeremiah Sullivan's age, he may have been Catherine's grandfather.  Another Jeremiah Sullivan, age 64, died on August 19, 1873 in Horsemount, Kilcorney. The informant was Katherine Sullivan. This Jeremiah Sullivan was probably her father. The known children of Timothy Callahan (about 1838-1892) and Catherine Sullivan (1834-1900) were: Mary T. Callahan. Born 1858 in Co. Cork, Ireland. Married John S. Howard (son of Michael Howard and Margaret Corkery) on November 27, 1884 in Haverhill, MA. Died December 18, 1926 in Haverhill, MA. John Callahan. Born April 8, 1860 in South Horsemount, Co. Cork, Ireland. Married Elizabeth Sullivan on April 5, 1882 in Banteer parish, Co. Cork, Ireland. Died March 6, 1949 in Glenleigh, Co. Cork, Ireland. Jeremiah Callahan. Born about 1863 in Co. Cork, Ireland. Married Margaret Cronin on August 11, 1896 in Haverhill, MA. Died March 27, 1943 in Haverhill, MA. Catherine Callahan. Born November 9, 1865 in Co. Cork, Ireland. Married Timothy O'Connell on April 20, 1893 in Haverhill, MA. Died May 11, 1938 in Haverhill, MA. Elizabeth Callahan. Born April 25, 1868 in Co. Cork, Ireland. Married Ora J. French on July 9, 1902 in Haverhill, MA. Died October 31, 1945 in Haverhill, MA. Julia Callahan. Born April 25, 1868 in Co. Cork, Ireland. Married Denis Mahoney about 1915. Died October 9, 1946 in Haverhill, MA. Margaret Callahan. Born January 25, 1870 in Knockgorm, Kilcorney, Co. Cork, Ireland. Married Michael Melody on July 1, 1895 in Haverhill, MA. Died July 13, 1942 in Haverhill, MA. Michael Callahan. Born July 25, 1872 in Knockgorm, Kilcorney, Co. Cork, Ireland. Sullivan family in Co. Cork John Sullivan, of Glaunleigh (Glenleigh), married Mary Howard on February 24, 1838 in Banteer parish, Co. Cork. The witnesses were Jeremiah Sullivan and Mary Sullivan. The Howards were a large family in the area, and several of them are buried in the old Kilcorney cemetery with the following marker (as transcribed in Albert Eugene Casey's O'Kief, Coshe Mang, Slieve Lougher and Upper Blackwater in Ireland, vol. 7, p. 2149): The burial place of the Howard Family, Glenleigh, Eliza Howard died 5th Apr. 1880 aged 63 years. Henry Howard died 24 Dec. 1890 aged 83 years. Jerome H. Howard, died 21 Feb. 1918, aged 68 years. May they rest in peace. Mary Howard, wife of John Sullivan, died on July 22, 1905 in Knockgorm, Kilcorney. Her age was given as 93, and the informant was Kate Callaghan, identified as her granddaughter. The 1901 Irish census recorded her age as 85--she was living with the family of her son-in-law John Callaghan in Knockgorm, Kilcorney. The following are children of John Sullivan and Mary Howard: Ellen Sullivan. Born February 25, 1839 in Glenleigh (Glaunleigh), Co. Cork. (Informants for baptism were Michael Corkery and Johanna Sullivan.) Jeremiah Sullivan. Born January 2, 1842 in Glenleigh, Co. Cork. (Informants for baptism were Jeremiah Sullivan and Mary Howard.) James Sullivan. Born January 5, 1845 in Glenleigh, Co. Cork. (Informants for baptism were Michael Sullivan and Ellen Howard.) Robert Sullivan. Born May 21, 1848 in Horsemount, Co. Cork. (Informants for baptism were William Keleher and Julia Herlihy.) Patrick Sullivan. Born September 7, 1851 in Glenleigh, Co. Cork. (Informants for baptism were Dennis Hogan and Jane Howard.) Honora Sullivan. Born June 3, 1855 in Glenleigh, Co. Cork. (Informants for baptism were Michael Howard and Mary Murphy.) Elizabeth Sullivan. Born March 17, 1861 in Glenleigh, Co. Cork. (Informants for baptism were John Sullivan and Mary Howard.) Married John Callaghan on April 25, 1882 in Banteer parish, Co. Cork. Died December 29, 1926 in Knockgorm, Kilcorney, Co. Cork.   Sullivan/O'Connell families in Co. Kerry   This branch of the Sullivan family is from Knegare/Cuinnegear, Brosna, Co. Kerry, Ireland, where John Sullivan and Julia O'Connell reared their family. Brosna is a village close to where Counties Kerry, Limerick, and Cork meet. In the 1880s and 1890s, some members of this family moved to Haverhill, Massachusetts and other parts of America while others remained in Ireland. In the 20th century, other descendants moved to Haverhill, to the Fresno area in California, and to the United Kingdom. John Sullivan died about 1899, and his wife Julia died after 1911.  I have been unable to find civil registrations for their deaths or any church records for their marriage.  In the 1901 census, Julia was listed as 66 years old and born in Kerry.  In the 1911 census, she was listed as 72, born in Limerick, and married for 39 years.  If John died in 1899, they would have married about 1860. There is a possible marriage record for John Sullivan and Julia Connell: Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick, church records show a wedding between John Sullivan and Julia Connell on February 5, 1857. The witnesses were Daniel Connors and David Connell. It is not known if John and Julia are the same couple who later lived in Brosna. There is also a baptism record for a Julia Connell in Abbeyfeale on April 21, 1838. Her parents were Michael Connell and Julia Herlihy. The sponsors were Timothy Crowley and Margaret Connell. It is not known if this is the same Julia Connell who married John Sullivan and reared their family in Brosna. The parents of John Sullivan may be Daniel Sullivan and Johanna (about 1799-1865).  There is a death registered in Brosna for September 5, 1865 for Joan Sullivan, age 66, the widow of Daniel Sullivan.  A John Sullivan was present at her death.  There is a Daniel Sullivan listed in the 1829 Tithe Applotments for Brosna as an occupant of land in Cnuigare.  In the Griffith's Valuation for Brosna East in 1852, Johanna Sullivan is shown as the occupier of 72 acres of land. She is probably John's mother, for the land he occupied later was about 75 acres.  In addition, John Sullivan's eldest son was named Daniel, following a traditional Irish naming pattern. The known children of John Sullivan and Julia O'Connell were: Ellen Sullivan. Married first John Keeffe in 1880. Married second Harris after 1890. Mollie Sullivan. Married Keane or Kane. Daniel Sullivan. Born December 21, 1865. Married Elizabeth Hartnett. Died after 1954 in Ireland. Elizabeth Sullivan. Born about 1866. Married William Cash. Died June 1, 1918 in Cork, Co. Cork, Ireland. Johanna Sullivan. Born about 1866. Married James H. Gaquin on May 24, 1887 in Lawrence, MA. Died September 11, 1906 in Haverhill, MA. Michael Sullivan. Baptized April 23, 1868 in Brosna, Co. Kerry. Married Margaret Cahill on February 18, 1896 in Brosna, Co. Kerry. Died May 1939 in Ireland. Mary Sullivan. Born September 13, 1870 in Brosna, Co. Kerry. Bridget Sullivan. Born November 26, 1872 in Brosna, Co. Kerry. Married John O'Beirne on March 1, 1897 in Brosna, Co. Kerry. Died January 13, 1940 in Cork, Ireland. John Sullivan. Born May 26, 1875 in Brosna, Co. Kerry. Married Margaret Galligan about 1900 in California. Died January 14, 1935 in Fresno, CA. Margaret Sullivan. Born May 29, 1877 in Brosna, Co. Kerry. Married Daniel D. Sullivan on February 1, 1898 in Haverhill, MA. Died September 22, 1933 in Oakland, CA.     Cash family in Ireland   Death Registrations   • CASH deaths registered in Ireland from 1864 through 1910 (Updated 12/26/02)   Kilcorney, Co.
