A Brief History of the Hentschel
Heritage
The HENTSCHEL's (Paul A. and two of his sisters) came
to Baltimore, Maryland about the 1880's from Neundstat,Upper Selesia,
Germany. The story goes (unsupported by any facts, yet) that there was a
Count Hentschel de Gilgenheimb. I have found references to a Hentschel von
Gilgenheimb related to German nobility, but I have not made a connection
to my tree, Also, one of the Hentschels was rumoured to be a gardener for
Kieser Whilhelm (also unsupported). The Hentschel's thrived in Baltimore
and one of Paul A.'s children, Paul J., married Christne RUPP and they had
13 children. One interesting member story is Adam E. RUPP (father of
Christine). He was orphaned in 1863 when Confederate troops looted and
burned his home and killed his parents just outside Chambersburg, PA. He
came to an orphanage in Baltimore, MD at the age of seven.
The BALCAITIS's came to Pennsylvania about the same time from Lithuania.
They settled in Harrison City, PA where Stanislovas (Stanley) was a
tailor. The family later relocated to Baltimore, MD after the mother,
Izabelle, died.
A Few Words on the World of the
William
The WILLIAM's are fom Pennsylvania.
The ZIMMERMAN's were an old colonial family in
Pennsylvania, possibly mennonite. Other PA families are the BERGERS, TEMPLIN, and GRUNEWALD.
The TRYON's and PRATHER's are from the midwest.
Any information would be
appreciated. I am also willing to share the information that I have.
