There has been a Samuel Jumper listed on every American Census, 1790 until present. And we can trace our lineage in a direct line of Samuels, all the way back. The first American born was Samuel Jumper, Esq. He was born in 1774 in Orangeburg SC. He died February 16, 1839 in Autauga County AL. His grandfather came to America from the Black Forest, now part of Germany. This was Johannas Conrod Schombert, a deed was recorded to him for land in Feb. 1758, Orangeburg District of South Carolina. The land was later deeded to his sons when he died, Feb. 16, 1773 and he was referred to as John Conrad Jumper. He had three known sons, John, Conrad and Peter. It appears that Johannas Conrad Jumper was already here when two brothers, John Jacob and George Adam Shumbert (Jumper) came in 1768. Were they related? Since there is not a proven connection of the first Samuel to Johannas, it is only my speculation. He was probably the son of either John, Conrad or Peter. I feel he was definitely a grandson of Johannas Conrad Jumper, for he names a son John G. (Gunrod?) Jumper. The Jumpers broke into two distinct lines, one being the famous Seminole Indian line and the other being the Whites. We have in our ancestry, descendants of two lines from Samuel Jumper, Esq. Samuel Jefferson Jumper married his cousin, Frances Alabama Jumper.
