Welcome to Mobley Heritage Publications
This site presents my
book about the name Mobberley and it's variants in the UK. It has
evolved from notes accumulated during many years research into my
own family history.
Within the pages of this book you will find details
of the names origin, place names, and the history of the early Motburleges.
It contains a catalogue of names up to 1841 and an introduction
to our early American namesakes.
'A Place Called Catshill'
Here is my latest book entitled ‘A Place Called Catshill’.
It contains 31 photographs, some of which have never been published
before, and covers local geology and environment, early history
and industry including a lengthy account of nailmaking. There is
a mass of detail about Catshill’s chapels and churches, education
and the old dialect, village road names, pubs and shops, a chapter
on the Houseman family and much more. The Appendix includes the
names of property owners listed in the 1690 Poll Tax, the 1837/8
Register of Electors, Principal traders in 1911 and nail makers
of the early 1900’s.
This limited publication is the only known professionally published
history of the village up to 1981, and includes the contents of my
booklet produced almost thirty years ago. It makes an ideal Christmas
or birthday present and is expected to be a complete sell-out. Copies
can be purchased from Waterstones in Bromsgrove, Catshill Post Office
and the village One-Stop shop.
