He also lived in Brooks Co., Ga. where he d. and was bur. in Bethel Church Yard, no marker.

Cuthbert bur. there in the Eastern Cemetery near her mother. Husband William Emery Bates from “The North” m. at Cuthbert issue Cecil (male) sole. b. Cuthbert 9 Sept. 1900. Cecil moved to Calif. where he married and had one dau. He was a World War one casualty, having spent many years after the war in Veterans Hospitals in Cal. His service was in the Army, he is living now in Los Angeles, Calif. 1954. C. V. B. B. was educated at Andrew Female College, Cuthbert, Ga. Had great talent for “Reading” (Poems, plays and folk yarns). Was very fond of dancing, she “led” the Balls (Germans) in her youth years, was a very popular belle, healthy, beautiful (Brunette) and a leader among those of her social contemporaries.

If I did not make myself clear write me telling me just what you want and I will do my best to help you better. My Grandfather on my Father’s side was a Baptist Minister and 33 Degree Mason. I was told by my Grandfather that his brother was the first white man that ever settled in the place that is now called Blackshear, Ga.
