Dr.

the fall of the regime of Saddam in 2003. "Turkey has maneuvered to create an

electoral law, Dr. Osman told a press conference in Sulaimani on Saturday.
Iraq's parliament proposed under article 24 of the election bill a deal that
will share power equally between Arabs, Kurds and Turkmen in Kirkuk , a
move bitterly opposed by the Kurds, given their numerical superiority, reported

Comments By the well-known Turkish journalist Mehmet Ali Birand
From Turkish daily News/ May 23, 2008
Every week, we
report without interruption about how we've dispersed the PKK and the
panic we've caused: Leaders forced into escaping, leaders killed during
fighting and exaggerated casualty figures. If you happen to add them up, it
looks as if we've nearly killed all PKK followers. However, they somehow
still manage to move around and kill our soldiers. No matter how big we make
our headlines. No matter how we report that the PKK is about to dissolve and
that they're running away in panic, it won't help. We'll only be fooling
ourselves.
We have to realize one thing for our own good. We're only fooling ourselves.
Our people are dying in vain. We have to finally realize that we won't get
anywhere with superfluous tales of heroism.

According to the
website of the Turkish military, air attacks in the Qandil mountains in
Southern Kurdistan led to the death of more than 200 PKK fighters and that
guerrilla units in Southern Kurdistan were disintegrating and that
two of its leaders Bayik and Erdal, had
fled into a neighboring country. The PKK, however,
denied that guerrilla units were disintegrating and that its leaders had
fled. There is no climate of panic. The statement of the general
staff is entirely a lie," Said Zubeyir Ayda, reported AFP. The Turks are
widely known for exaggerating their military prowess, typically increasing
the number of PKK casualties by an order of magnitude.
