Dear Capt Lim,
I am 44 years of age and currently a Professional Engineer in the field of Mechanical Engineering.
Kindly let me have some information, especially on the future career in flying as I wanted to become a pilot since my younger days. I hope I'm not too late for this position!
I was offered as a Cadet Pilot position with MAS way back in 1984 (if I'm not mistaken) but I have to set aside my 'dream' just to fulfill my parent's requirement to further my studies in UK and becoming an engineer.
Now, I'm fully independent and I hope to fulfill my personal interest in becoming a pilot. I don't know whether I still have a 'place' in this field since I'm quite senior in my current position.
Kindly let me have some information e.g. the recommended training school in Malaysia, fees, course duration, future career etc. I wish to begin this course as soon as possible.

Hello Captain Lim,
I was told by my friend that in the Cadet Pilot interview, he was asked this question:
What is the advantage of a 4-engine over a 2-engine airplane? The reference was to BOEING 777 series and a BOEING 747.
I tried searching your website and also the Internet but couldn't find a clear cut answer to this question. Could you please provide me with an answer to this?
I have one more question:
You are a co-pilot and you find that your captain is approaching the airport at a higher speed than normally followed. You tell the captain about it and the captain tells you, I have flown this approach more than 500 times. What does the co-pilot do then?
I don't have any friend who is a pilot to give me guidance. I would be very grateful to you if you could provide me with answers to the above mentioned questions.

Hi Captain Lim,
I am just wondering whether I should join the Australian Air Force to get my hours or just train privately to achieve my dream of becoming an airline pilot.
I am a New Zealander that lives in Malaysia but I have lived in Australia recently and I think that I could get in as the ANZACs have always been close.
When I turn 18 {15 now} I could get into the Air Force as my flight instructor once told me.
Please help me as I am really confused.

Hi Captain Lim,
I am sorry to ask this - the question might be bothering to you, but why do pilots, especially captains receive such high pay? I am aspiring to become a pilot for Malaysia Airlines and I need the answer to this question.
I am quite scared when I recently found out that pilots, especially captains in Malaysia Airlines can earn up to RM 30,000 per month. Now, that is quite a large sum of money for local Malaysians like me where my parent's salary doesn't even reach RM 5000. I have always wanted to earn that much.
Does a captain in Malaysia airlines really earn that large salary?
Why do pilots receive such a high pay and what is the rationale behind it?
Is the job too prolific or just because you are risking your life?
I hope to receive an honest answer from you.

I have a fear that when the plane door closes, I might panic because I have a problem with closed-in places that I can not get out of.
Now I really have a problem because when they have an over lay, they let you stay in the plane for a long time.

How are you Sir? I am a cabin crew with Malaysia Airlines and have just got my CPL/IR.
What happens when you are cruising at about FL250 and you have one engine failure, say on a Boeing 777-200? I guess you would commence a drift down on one engine, but how about the terrain clearance?
What about decompression? You have to dive down to 10,000 feet but how would you know that you are not going to hit a mountain top? The situation is critical as you dive down but at the same time, you might have obstacles which you might not be sure of its height.
