Directory
Society of Singers benefits the health and welfare of
professional singers worldwide and awards scholarships to students
pursuing an education in the vocal arts.
There is no union or guild that exclusively
represents the rights and welfare of singers. They are often
working without medical insurance, life insurance, pension funds or
residual contracts and are unable to turn to other sources for help.
SOS, established
in 1984, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in
California. The Human Services Department is also housed
there.
Hours of operation are from 9:30 to 5:30 (PST), Monday through
Friday. The Society also has a chapter located in New York driven
by membership and fundraising activities.
Since its inception, donations from private
and corporate sponsors have enabled SOS to offer
comprehensive services to meet the multiple needs of professional
singers internationally. Eligible applicants must have earned their primary
living as professional singers for five years or more. They represent
all ages, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and all genres
of performance. Any assistance is kept strictly confidential
as SOS respects the pride of all singers whose talent, energy,
courage and determination have a vital impact in the world of
entertainment, culture and the arts. Singers are ALWAYS treated
with utmost compassion and respect.
