The CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL LEGAL STUDIES A:hover {color: #C40000; font-weight: normal} The CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL LEGAL STUDIES - CILS/the CENTER - is a non-profit research, training, and law publications institute, established and operating under Austrian law and with its international headquarters based in Salzburg, Austria since 1976. Its essential purpose is to promote the dissemination of information among members of the international legal community, through research and publication projects, post-graduate and professional training programs, and academic seminars, professional symposia and continuing legal education conferences. The Center provides observers on a regular basis at meetings of UNCITRAL and its Working Groups in Vienna and New York. The CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL LEGAL STUDIES has a close cooperation with the Salzburg Seminar and Suffolk University Law School, Boston, Massachusetts. It has also worked with the law faculties of the University of Salzburg, Austria, the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, the University of Durham, England, the National University of Chile, the University of Arkansas, Little Rock and with the Clinton School of Public Service as well as with numerous other universities and educational organizations in Europe and the United States. Nearly 5,000 lawyers worldwide have been designated as Alumni of the CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL LEGAL STUDIES in recognition of their contributions to its programs. The Center offers a variety of publications, ranging from newsletters to books, online. Seminars & Retreats Seven events are held annually in locations in Europe, North and South America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. CENTER'S events have been certified for continuing education credit by the Law Society of England and Wales, the Faculty of Advocates of the Scottish Bar, the Netherlands Bar, the States of California and New York (under the approved jurisdiction rule), and Texas. LLM in United States Law In cooperation with Suffolk University Law School, Boston, Massachusetts and Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary, the CENTER administers an LLM program designed for non-American lawyers, completed over three summer sessions held in Budapest. Internship / Master's Degree Programs The CENTER'S international law internship program places young lawyers and law students in training positions with law firms in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa. CILS interns may also receive credit in Suffolk University Law School's LLM programs. Senior Lawyers Visiting Professorship Through its Senior Lawyers’ Program, the CENTER places experienced Common Law practitioners in visiting professorships at institutions in East Europe and the former republics of the Soviet Union. More than 130 senior lawyers have taken up appointments in the first two years of the program. Congress of Fellows Nearly 500 Fellows have taken membership in the Congress of Fellows and play an active role in inspiring its projects and programs. The Congress meets annually in locations throughout the world selected by its membership. International Business Law Consortium The CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL LEGAL STUDIES offers law firms, accountancy firms, and business consultancies worldwide the opportunity to participate as members of its International Business Law Consortium. Over 100 law firms worldwide are members of the IBLC.
