I went to the local village primary school,then the middle schoolover the hill, and finally to Prince Henry's HighSchool in Evesham. There I gained A levels in Maths, FurtherMaths, Physics, and Chemistry. Oh, and another AS level in Maths. InOctober 1998 I took up a place at Pembroke College, Cambridge to read mathematics. I duly completed parts I and II of thetripos, graduating in June 2001. I then went on to do Part III of theMathematical Tripos, which is taken as a separate fourth year, and isroughly equivalent to a masters degree. There are many courses tochoose from, and I concentrated on those relating to fluiddynamics.Whilst at Cambridge, I joined, and later helped run the universityjuggling society,improving my juggling skills and learning to ride a unicycle. I alsogot involved with my college science society, learnt a bit of ballroom dancing, did lotsof punting, and designed awebsite for my tennisclub back home.I continued at Cambridge to complete a PhD in fluid mechanics. Iwas supervised by JohnLister, in the Institute ofTheoretical Geophysics. My dissertation was entitled“TheoreticalSolutions for Convective Flows in Geophysically MotivatedRegimes”. I'm currently doing a postdoc on 3D time-dependentflows in collapsible elastic tubes,in OCIAM atthe University of Oxford.
