Dr. Heather Devine of the University of Calgary and her associate, Margaret Clarke are in the process of conducting a historical research study which will fully describe the history of the Métis people of Buffalo Lake in Central Alberta. In the 1800s the Métis had several “Wintering Sites” or “Hivernant Villages” (Buffalo Lake, Boss Hill, Tail Creek and Grande Pointe) all around Buffalo Lake which were on travel routes to and from other communities in what is now Alberta and Saskatchewan (and beyond).
