(Opens new window)Click here to register as an ILSA member! 50th Anniversary Season of the Jessup Competition Commences ILSA is pleased to announce the commencement of the 2009 Jessup Season, which will mark the 50th Anniversary of the Competition, with the release of the Competition Problem (the Compromis). The Compromis can be found in both HTML and Microsoft Word format on the Jessup Materials Page. Announcing Arrival of Jessup Competition Coordinator ILSA is delighted to announce that Ashley Walker has joined the staff of the ILSA Executive Office as the new Jessup Competition Coordinator. Ashley received her J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, attending the Hague Academy of International Law and interning at the ICTY during the summers of 2006 and 2007, respectively. Ashley is a two-time Jessup competitor, advancing to the International Rounds in both 2007 and 2008. Her team won the South Central Regional Competition in 2007, obtaining the highest overall memorial scores, with Ashley ranking among the top five oralists. At the Shearman & Sterling International Rounds, her team received the Evans award for best memorials in the preliminary rounds, and their Respondent brief went on to win the Baxter award. In 2008, Ashley captained the Washington University Jessup team, which won the inaugural Midwest Super Regional Competition in Chicago. Ashley scored among the top ten oralists both at the Super Regional level and at the Shearman & Sterling International Rounds later that spring. Ashley is thrilled to continue her Jessup career as the incoming Jessup Competition Coordinator, and looks forward to working with old and new colleagues throughout the 2009 Competition season. For more information, please go to the Investment Arbitration Moot Website. 2008 ILSA Conference Brazil A Success ILSA would like to congratulate the student organizers of the 2008 ILSA Conference Brazil for hosting a wonderful event! Over 400 law students from more than 30 schools in 10 countries participated in the four-day conference which was held at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The conference organizers also created a new moot court competition – the Customs Union or Free Trade Area Dispute Resolution Competition – which was a resounding success with 11 teams participating.
