It is our fervent hope that Candidates give careful consideration to the Pledge points and conclude as we have: To continue politics as usual is good for no one, and signing and living by our Pledge is a bold, unilateral, and marketable political move. The first Pledge point, "Enumerate a clear set of principals publicly as part of my campaign message" refers to the documentation of the candidate's positions on critical, basic issues. This documentation is a means of requiring candidates to walk the talk: Tell us what YOU believe, then campaign on those beliefs, staying true to your principals, resisting special interest pressure, and if elected, continue to act in a manner consistent with those beliefs. The second Pledge point, "Campaign entirely on the issues of the day, and how my being elected would affect those issues" requires a candidate to disdain negative campaigning and give the voting public what it wants and deserves: An election campaign focused on the matters that are important to them and critical for moving the country ahead, not a campaign where the candidates tear each other down and voters have to hold their noses as they pull the lever, if they bother to vote at all. The third Pledge point, "Accept political contributions only from those who live or do business within the boundaries of the elected office I seek" holds candidates to fund raising that will not make them beholding to special interests or parties from other districts. It is our contention that money from outside a candidate's elective boundaries can only serve intentions other than the betterment of the district. The fourth Pledge point, "Act on legislation regardless of any party influence, stance, or affiliation" requires a candidate to disdain pressure to go against their own principles and act on legislation simply because it is the will of their political party, or the will of one of their party's biggest supporters. This Pledge point provides the greatest political cover for elected officials who've signed the Pledge.
